DARK MOONLIGHT

Last night, when the moonlight slipped into my attic room as an oblong of light, I sensed she’d come to commiserate.

It was October. She travelled with a small valise of darkness, and the first few stars returning to the northern sky,

And my room, it seemed, had missed her. She pretended an interest in the bookcase while other objects

Stirred, as in a rock pool, with unexpected life: strings of beads in their green bowl gleamed, the paper-crowded desk;

The books, too, appeared inclined to open and confess. Being sure the moon harboured some intention,

I waited; watched for an age her cool gaze shift first toward a flower sketch pinned on the far wall

Then glide down to recline along the pinewood floor, before I’d had enough. Moon,

GYAAN- an initiative by the students of LMTSM to teach the children in villages of Punjab and Haryana.

This initiative aims to teach the age groups between 5 to 16 years. Subjects like English, Mathematics and General Knowledge are covered in the classes which are held twice a week with an average strength of 60 students.

Workshop like-“Tips for healthy well-being”, “Sanitation” are also a part of this learning program.

Richa, one of the volunteers says- “one of the biggest challenges faced by GYAAN was to convince the parents to send their girls to study. However, by educating the parents, GYAAN was successfulto curb the challenges.”

To make children technologically viable, GYAAN has also started conducting computer classes.

PRME – Principles for Responsible Management Education

The Principles for Responsible Management Education (PRME) is a United Nations-supported initiative founded in 2007 as a platform to raise the profile of sustainability in schools around the world, and to equip today's business students with the understanding and ability to deliver change tomorrow. Dr. Padmakumar Nair, Director of LM Thapar School of Management has signed an MOU with the UN that LM Thapar School of Management will be taking initiatives towards a Sustainable India.

Hospital Waste Management

A hospital is no place to be sick”
The indiscriminate and erratic handling and disposal of waste is a source of infection and synonymous with public perception of poor standards of health care. Our vision is to improve the effectiveness and quality of healthcare risk waste management and uplift the standards of the medical industry on a local level. This step from our end will initiate a change toward a sustainable healthcare industry of our country.

To address such serious yet overlooked issue LM Thapar School of Management has taken up the initiative in the form of Sustainability in Practice project titled “Hospital Waste Management and Segregation” under the mentorship of Dr. D.S. Broca.

Prof. Padmakumar Nair, Director and Dean of LM Thapar School of Management (LMTSM) met with the Hon'ble president of Malta, Ms. Marie Louise Colerio along with Prof. (Dr.) Frank Bezzina, Dean, Faculty of Economics, Management and Accountancy, University of Malta. Prospects for collaborative arrangements between LMTSM and the University of Malta in the form of joint academic programs, collaborative research, student and staff exchange, credit transfer programs were explored. Our initiatives on sustainability and renewable energy were also deliberated.
